A few more Ps. weilii, and one giant.
    #371614 -

Went out to the patch again today to see what has come up after a few nights of rain. Theres lots of pins, but I only found a few mature mushrooms, and one overly mature weilii that was huge. I've found bigger before, but never gets pics. In fact GG picked a nice big one while he was up here, probably bigger than this one.

Here are the pics...

Check out this mutant. I found 3 more weilii in my backyard a few minutes ago, and I noticed one has gills formed ONTOP of the cap, and it appears there is either hyphal knotting or a pin forming in these mutant gills.

This is just getting cruel. ;)

I hope the ones growing in my yard are hallucinagenic. I'll scan some and tell me what you think. I've checked for blueing, but it doesn't look very blue. They were growing in woodchips which is good. I think.

"and I noticed one has gills formed ONTOP of the cap"
-how Cant you notice that! =)

Are you sure that is a "mutant" characteristic, or maybe that is more common of an occurance with weilii than you think..

Either way, my head is getting dizzy just looking at it

Actually, I found a few last year with the same "mutation" on the cap now that you mention it. I tried to get a pic of them, but didn;t have a digital at that time last year.

Well lizard king it is putting a strain on my soul even looking at this. ..the taste of weilii mushrooms is heavenly. Its a high pitched clear-blue squeely tasteing frequency, it tastes like eating food from a different planet or dimension and thoroughly, blew my head into pieces last time i ate them. =)

The gill structure forming on the caps could be related to the nipple of a Psilocybe cubensis in comparison.. and as we've talked about before, weilii is not only the american landslide mushroom, but also "georgia's solution to lack of cubensis" haha,

as we have compared;

Floridas Psilocybe cubensis & Copelandia cyanescens

to

Georgias Psilocybe weilii & Psilocybe atlantis!

--

The Psilocybe weilii is almost exactly the same, Size and Weight thickness of Psilocybe cubensis. That i say, because the weiliis are just huge, And that really, those stories about finding 6-7" cubensis caps in florida are true, but Cubes grow small, you dont always find big cubes. And ive done enough cube picking to know that.

And then of course weilii has the White gills, incredible. They have big fat black caps.

Lizard also showed me this strange Pink stuff growing on one weilii cap.. is that normal??

I am surprise Psilocybe weilii hasnt caught other amateur and professional mycologists eyes like myself.. its probably best just kept a secret. =)
