Can anyone tell me the best method to cleaning peralite?

Yeah toss it and buy some Geolite! Which can be PC-ed etc etc not messy at all....

Dont know any alternative.. :wink:

you could try a 3% bleach solution, flush it out well after the soak

i've read somewhere you can throw it all on a tray/baking sheet and cook for a while in the oven at 375, maybe like 30-45 min. or so

dont think so it comes pretty clean, but better safe then sorry.

I PC-ed my geolite before I used it in my PMP. But since then (3 months?) never cleaned it.... :wink:

It says sterile on the bag, but I wouldn't put too much faith in that. I'd either oven bag it or PC.

dont need to steralize it the first use (well i never did)

just do it between uses or buy a new bag for $2...heh

Thanks for all the replies everyone i ended up rinsing with bleach/water solution then baking!!And i was actually cleaning between uses, had a cake go bad on me and just wanted to be sure to sterilize the chamber but won't have a chance to get to the store to get more til saturday, just playin it safe. Also mikl you use peralite with your casing? What kind of set up? I was told to remove it from my casing chamber and just spray the rubbermaid 3 times :wink:

I've only used bleach, always excellent results and I can do almost 5 gals. at a time. I drain and rinse in a pillowcase then let it hang and forget it. This is what I'd recommend also :wink:

Perlite can humidify casings just as well as cakes...I dont know why you were told to remove it and mist...if thats your humidity source though you should leave it.
