That's a philosophical question in itself.

Any comments?
That's a pretty awesome quote because it's so true. Nobody ever changes their mind about something from reading this forum. It's just arguing, over and over.

Well that's easy for Crowley to say, considering that he trafficked in superstitious muck. Naturally he would be disparaging of anyone trying to hold any kind of rational discourse concerning the human condition.

Would you be so kind as to be of some use to this forum , and educate me on the matter of rational discourse?
And do you think you have any rational thoughts about the human condition?
Do you think being rational is rational? Can rationality be defended with something other than rationality?

i completely agree with this... There have been some times though where i have been shown completely wrong, and I will concede the point, which usually can break the wall of supposed truth on the other side as well, leading to the other side saying "and I do see your point about this, and it is valid in some respects". I used to be bullheaded and stubborn (still am sometimes) and try to keep defending a diminishing point only to save face or not have to "eat crow". I foudn that this invalidates the entire point of arguing or discussing philosophical matters, which is to collectivly toss thoughts and ideas together, and share multiple veiwpoints and takes on X subject. Through this, people can begin adding and subtracting from their peices of the puzzle of the answer to the great question.

I don't consider myself an expert. But in my humble opinion, having the disembodied voice of Aiwaz dictate the secrets of the Aeon of Horus to you in a room in Cairo would be the antithesis of rational discourse. I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb there.

And do you think you have any rational thoughts about the human condition?
Sure. We all do. I'm certain even Crowley had some. He just didn't do much writing about them. Mainly he just skimmed surface ideas from the Buddhists and Taoists (using the crummy translations available to him at the time) and pureed them in his "Thelema" blender.

Crowley owned your ass the second he said:

crowley really immersed, but really messed around too.
a bit too carney for my taste. but it is easy to complain.
a good read for sure, something to wonder about, part of the process of keeping one's mind open at best.

philosophy "the love of learning" so the purpose of having a philosophical discussion would be to learn. That's good enough for me. Even if you don't change your mind, at least you can see other perspectives...
