i've ha some AMAZING times with cracked corn. Takes a bit of practice to make it viable tho, bacerial endospores are a bitch. I've seen a half gallon jar colonize completely in under 8 days using that substrate.

Yeah im still amazed... from spawn to colonizing 3+ inch straw and penetrating a 1 inch casing layer in 10 days. (more like 9 actually!)
Like I say in that thread im never gonna do cakes again nor am I planning to try straight wbs/rye casings... Ah what the heck , must do that too!
