Holy basil - Ocimum sanctum
    #3713804 - 02/01/05 03:44 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Ocimum sanctum extract.

Take enough gell caps, you will have an entheogenic experience.

You can buy holy basil extract at health food stores, herbal supplement stores.

Took the whole bottle.

Everything glows green, very large visual patterns.
Is for sure psychoactive.

You get very high from this.

Synergies with cannabis very well.

Also makes you tear for a few weeks after a large dose.

Also regenerates cells. Makes you feel rejuvenated.

I'll have to look into this...

How did you come about eating a bunch of holy basil gel caps?

Do you know the active ingredient or alkaloid?

Has anyone else you know tried this?

Sounds interesting and worth a try...

Any negative effects?

are you referring to the caps here?

http://smileherb.com/Smilebiz/432129H.asp

???

it's said to be used as a sacred herb by india or some place similar for balancing the chakra. Interesting...

I can't find what the active ingredient would be, but it's also used as a dietary supplement and to treat colds and flu's.

What information leading to the effects you experienced do you have? It would be great to know if this is really worth the time, and if theres any negative side effects.

Duke lists the constituents as "Alkaloids" so i guess it's not really known what's causing the effect.

You can have a similar experience from regular basil and fennel, and even parsley. But in the high amounts that are needed for the experience, it's quite toxic and harmful to your kidneys and liver. I probably won't try this one.

There are many things that are very good for you and can still cause vital damage to your organs in large amounts. Shit, waters beyond good for you, yet you can drink yourself to death.

http://www.allayurveda.com/herb_month_march2004.htm

Enough proof?

Although it is apparently harmless, what got my attention was the section about chewing "up to 12 leaves a day". Maybe there are some contradictions after this point?

you mean like this...."Therapists believe that personality and emotions too can be interpreted from auras. One with soft, fringed edges for instance is likely to indicate a person too susceptible to the influence of others. Firm but fluid boundaries would indicate openness but not vulnerability. And a hard, distinct outline belonging to one who is defensive and insecure. Similarly, lots of red within the aura would indicate anger while a predominance of blue would stand for idealism."

He was making reference to another article on that site that BorgFace linked to to show a possible lack of legitimacy on the part of http://www.allayurveda.com

Well it is an ayurveda site...

Ignorance of other cultures and practices is why the majority of the western world is in such a state of spiritual hiatus.

Thanks for contributing to it zerozero.

Here is another site with the same information.

Oh and by the way, what you posted wasn't on the page I linked. So not only did you take my words out of context, you also managed to take the site with it too.

Borg.

Actually I felt better after a high dose.

I also smoke it in small amounts.

I had side-effects after high doses.

You will tear from the tear ducks for no reason for a couple months.

well i was simply posting what i thought might be some of the quote ," ....there are some contradictions after this point? "
and it was from your org link.

and i didn't take any of your words out of context,? i just posted a paragraph. from your org link.
i didn't even make a comment,.. and i was being kinda sarcastic, since you had been so vague in your statement about there being, "contradictions after this point."

and for no reason, you got all, "

Ignorance of other cultures and practices is why the majority of the western world is in such a state of spiritual hiatus.

Thanks for contributing to it zerozero."

This is one of the admixtures in a smoking blend made by an Indian (the ones from India) Scientist, whom was actually a nominate for the nobel prize and is highly respected. This smoking blend comes as a powder which water is suppost to be added and slowly dried in the oven to make a sort of Hashish type substance.. I've recently gained interest in this plant, its on my list but I haven't got to researching it yet.. I believe Richters.com up in Canada sells the plants.. Glad to see people are working with this one.

A did a quick search on scientific publications about this. There are numerous publications that describe antioxidant effects (good), some publications about anti-stress and neurochemical effects (ok) and some others that describe anti-androgenic effects, male infertility, decreased sperm count and sperm motility (ugly).

Hi friends. I have been working with tulsi basil for years, it's ones if the first sacred herbs I studied.  It's very easy to grow and has a lighter, sweeter taste then basil.  While I have not used it for entheogenic purposes, drinking the tea every day for years, from the dried leaves of the batch I grow each year, has only proven beneficial.  It's a subtle, kind energy, and is extremely sacred in India, where they plant it next to temples.  I also make tinctures from it, and am considering making a mead that has holy basil as an ingredient. I would not worry about ODing on this.  It's would be quite difficult.
