I was wondering if it was possible to grow mushrooms in jars. I would prefer if my family didn't know about my growery and a terrarium is very hard to hide. I would like to here about different techniques that do not involve a terrarium and would be somewhat easy. Thanks for the help

That's what I'm planning on doing only I want to know if you can grow "in-vitro" using a shakeable rye grain filled jar,will the mycellium 'fill the jar up'so that it's no longer shakeable or is it to unstable for pinning to occur?

Yes and yes...do a search on 'Hippie's Invitro Tek', which utilizes the standard PF Tek and can be modified for other growing mediums..(once the mycelium colonizes to a certain point, it will be unshakeable...)...or check out mycotopia.yage.net to ask the creator himself..

terrarium hard to find? i would disagree, a plastic box with a lid isn't hard to find.

just have to walk down the high street and i have 3 shops selling them.

hippie doesn't run it anymore, he's dissappeared or perhaps using another name..perhaps it starts with an r..

the invitro tek is kind hit and miss although I've heard it works better with the Matis Romero strain. I've seen it work off and on with the Tapalpa as well but not enough that I would count on it.

Just pick up an old aquarium from the thrift shop and stick it under your bed!

Just my 2? but don't try any of the Thailand variety of cubs for invitro. All 12 jars that my uncle tried only grew 1/2" aborts... He tried Koh Samui....

i dont like the invitro method!! whenever you take the cake out to pick some shrooms theres always two or three pins that fall off in the process that become practically useless. i just pick them up and through them in my mouth since they are too small to dry.

I may not be especially keen on the Tek, but it is the most stealthful, and I believe that is what he is after..
