Accident While Boiling
    #3712912 - 02/01/05 12:34 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

So while boiling a tiny bit of water got in somehow or another. There were a few water droplets on the inside top of my half pint jars and the top layer of vermiculite was a tiny bit wet. Question is- will this be ok or should I redo them? Thanks

i would redo them just to be safe. unless you have the spores to waste. but wait for someelse else to answer seeing how i'm still new

if the substrate in the jars doesn't look saturated, you should be ok i would assume

i cant see the actual substrate real well, but it looks only as wet as it did before. The verm. on top is for sure moist now though

If your substrate is dry enough there is no problem. The dry top layer is to keep bacterials "out". They can't stand the dry layer. But know that it's wet you may have got a litte more risk for contantamination.

If you can afford the spores just give it a try.

also try using a double layer of rubber banded coffee filters around the top, that might help gaurd that moist top verm layer from contams

Covering each jar with a small sheet of foil works best for keeping extra moisture out , it does not act like a wick like coffee filters do

Original poster .... you sure water got in and that is not just condensation from the water you NEED in there ?  As long as did not get soaking dripping wet you should be good to go .
