what size?
    #371195 - 08/13/01 03:46 PM (22 years, 8 months ago)

when im ready to put my cakes in a tupperwear container with perlite on the bottom how big should the container be? ill be doing 6 cakes should i use a container to fit all of them or should i do a few in each one? i know the cakes should have at least an inch of free space on all sides. also how many shrooms do you think i could possibly get out of 6 cakes (i know theirs a lot of factors that effect this) also i was wondering if anyone has tryed cutting their cake in half and fruiting it as 2 insteed of 1? any help would be very appreciated!

thanks
~?mokey~

The container's size depends on how many cakes you want in it. You're doing 6 cakes, so find a container that will hold 6 cakes. The more room the better. Just dont have TOO much room. Any big container will do fine.

Out of 6 cakes (assuming that you used brf/verm, and are just birthing the cakes...) I would GUESS you will get around 14 grams dried. (2.5 grams per cake) Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

I've never heard of cutting the cake in two (except when casing) so I don't know about this...

read a grow review of someone who had 6 cakes, had a few probelms but got 24g dry.

are o many factors, which can vary it, but what ever youtodl here won't be accurate. coul be 1g per cake could be 5 g per cake or more if you lucky.

tard-tek yeilded an average of 5.56 dry grams per cake on the first flush. This was out of one dozen jars.

If you are casing and only have six cakes to work with, I might split them up and do maybe three trays (two cakes/tray). That way if one becomes contaminated, you have a better chance of getting some kind of yield rather than getting nothing at all. Just a thought...

As for cutting a cake in half, I have never heard about it, but it should work. I would cut it in half, then maybe put it on a bed of damp verm, and put it in a dark place for about 3-5 days to allow the mycelium to "heal." After that just birth it like a regular cake.
