***PICS**** of Possible new SPECIES washed ashore from ASIAN Tsunami
    #3709686 - 01/31/05 07:21 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

A friend sent me these pics of some creatures that were washed ashore from the recent tsunami.  Iv'e taken a marine boligy course and said that there are a few that look familiar to the deep sea speices----such as the Umbrella mouth, crab and hatchet fish but....even so, they are quite an interesting look and you have to admit, some of these guys don;t look familair:

Looks like some type of Viper fish?

----ahh

---this looks like the big mouth GUlper eel probably is...

----looks like the Deasea stargazer fish

---The Firefly name probably comes from the photophores or bioluminescene this deepsea squid has.

Theres a few more but thats bout all my 1000kb...hoep you enjoy em

I don't think they're new species. At least some of them are featured on the Australian National Oceans Office web page. Regardless, they're super-cool pictures and they show how weird the deep sea really is.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Those fish all look so alien. It's crazy to think about all the species that we have never and maybe will never find.

Those aren't really from the tsunami, I don't know how that rumor got started. They are cool though. James Cameron made an IMAX documentary about sea life near deep sea volcanic vents and such, there are lots of freaky looking fish like that in it if you want to see more.

All those alien movies start to seem not so far fetched, just examine the many paths evolution takes.  Amazes me
