Jiffy mix?
    #3708781 - 01/31/05 05:03 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

Hey all, I had good success with pf, but now I want to move up to grains. I inoculated a couple of rye myco bags. This will be my first attempt at casing, so I wanna see what ya'll think about using Jiffy mix, it's everything I need, right?
As I become more familiar, I may wish to vary my mixtures.
But this is good to start with, right?

Which is better? Case with it or, use as a substrate?

its better to case with because its vermiculite and sphagnum moss, I recomend
coco coir and vermiculite instead, it's less acidic

Thanks Pris,
I was like  :wtf:
Well, I think I'll stick to using rye as a substrate and coco coir as a casing :smirk:

I think you're confusing it with muffin making mix.

Hey, don't ditch Jiffy Mix right away...

Depending on where you live, Jiffy Mix has lime added to it to balance that PH - also depends on what kind of Jiffy Mix you have....I am aware of different versions. Just look closely at it's contents/ingredients. As stated, without that lime that some bags of Jiffy contain (clearly marked) - it is more acidic that coco/verm.

Good luck on whatever you decide

I know what strikes me as odd about this. It is totally unnatural. The whole idea is just totally backwards.

So are historians going to look back at 'The Great Cake Eaters'? Damn. That was a backwards step in the evolutionary process. We left Shroomheads in the dust. Welcome to the new age of Vermheads.
