pint vs 1/2pint
    #370936 - 08/13/01 02:28 AM (23 years, 5 months ago)

I was just wondering if a 1/2 pint jar would work just as well as a pint jar. I can buy some pint jars but the bottom of the jar is wider than the top. I know the rice shrinks but by how much? The pints bottom is exactly as wide as the top. Just not as much growing meduim to work with.

1/2 pt is the recommended size. a full pt takes a bit longer to colonize and requires a little bit more innoculate, and like you said more growing medium.

either works :)

You'll need a pressure cooker if you're going to do pints. Also, if the jar`s mouth is more narrow than the base, you'll have to scoop out the substrate with a spoon. This means casings only, no cakes.
