I went to El Prado as a child, it struck me as one of the most important and substantial museums, otherwise my favorite is the palace of fine arts in San Fran.
what are all your favorite museums?, or have they become outmoded and passe?

I live in Southern California and there are two great museum/places to visit...first off, since it's closer to me..
Balboa Park...classical architecture in a dowtown setting with tons of statues and museums. They also have an IMAX theater there showing different movies all the time. There are atleast 4 fine are museums..with one right now showing rock art posters from San Fransisco 1960-1970..and the Museum of Man has a torture device show along with Voodoo.

My second pick...actually my first but it's a long drive, is to visit the John Paul Getty Museum in L.A. Huge and beautiful architectectural wonder with a crazy cactus garden overlooking downtown LA. Getty also has his home residence, the Villa in the city somewhere but when I went it was being remodeled. Some say that is better.

If your in so cal, check it out.

My favourite has to be the 'Hash, Marijuhana, Hemp' museum in Amsterdam :)
