I'm finding it damn near impossible to keep track of news & accuracy
    #3708208 - 01/31/05 05:38 PM (14 years, 20 days ago)

The more I research and read, the more I've gained a strong distrust of almost any news media. This is probably going to get a response of "No fucking duh" but it still doesn't solve the problem.

One thing can be said about most mainstream sources is that they tend to be way off on things and don't represent too much insight or clarity.

Then comes in the Independant media which, of course, will vary wildly in accuracy from website to website.

The news I trust most is from http://www.alternet.org because I've seen enough insightful & accurate things to general trust it.

So the largest part of the problem is that I receive so many different messages and bits of useless information that it's hard to piece everything together. I was under the impression that the second Patriot Act, the "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003" had passed in Congress & signed into law by Bush. As it turns out, it wasn't...... except that it is..... It's being cut up and tacked onto larger bills so that it can pass through with little trouble.

It's obvious that things in current events are extremely confusing, made worse by the slants that are injected into things. I keep looking for answers only to find more questions than anything else.

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

Yea nothing ever seems to get reflected accurately and clearly by most media sources.

A solution? First off, you need to keep up with some media watchdogs.

These two focus solely on media bias, deception, lies, and mistakes:

This is a resource to find out about most public relations firms, think tanks, industry-funded organizations and industry-friendly experts that work to influence public opinion and public policy on behalf of corporations, governments and special interests. Sponsored by the Center for Media and Democracy. (This is a wiki community by the way)

This is a pretty good site if you want to know anything about a particular politician:

And how money is spent during elections:

And the best places to get news i find (not Op-Eds) is

and MSN's Newsbot

The reason I mention these two as pretty cool news sources, is that they don't produce any news at all. Rather Google searches the net for the lastest Headlines in 1,4000 publications. MSN searches through 1,600 i believe. For any given article, there's normally a range of 30-200 sources to chose from if you so wished. So read it one place, then go read it another and another, and see how they match up and compare. They cover newspapers online from many nations, major television networks from BBC to Fox News, and many merely online sources that aren't so much "big names".
