I love the piano
    #3704155 - 01/30/05 10:18 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I really love songs with good piano parts in them. Im wondering if anyone had any reccomendations.
Im looking for any catchy song with the piano in it, like Pink Floyd's Pow R. Toc, or Klaatu's- Calling occupants of interplanetary craft.
I also like jazzy techno with piano in it like St Germain's Sentimental Mood.
Also anything up beat like Todd Rundgren's I saw the light.
If you like any of these songs and others, id love to know them.

Im sure youd like a song called Switch by Amon Tobin. In fact, you'll probably like the whole album, it's called Premutation.

Amon Tobin's a good reccomendation; also check out Philip Glass' Solo Piano album, really astounding work. Blockhead's got some funky piano stuff. And look into "The Bad Plus", three guys; an upright bassist, a drummer and an unorthadox pianist. they do a cover of "smells like teen spirit" that's great.

If you're thinking along the lines of "popular music" I would suggest the doors. I can't think of any other band (in the rock and roll scene anyways) with a lead keyboardist, usually that's reserved for the guitar but the Doors keyboardist is amazing.

Then there is the whole world of classical music on the piano or the piano and the violin that open your mind in different ways that you wouldn't think possible.

Then there's the world of jazz and I, for one, love improvised music. Really speaks to the soul.

There's so much good piano music out there; just keep your ears and mind open.

Lyle Lovett has some really nice piano parts..... so does Chick Corea minus the hardcore MIDI 80's stuff.

Im doing alot of experimentation with piano sounds right now....layering, reverbs plugins etc.... trying to find a good solid dark piano sound....Not cold or clangy but spookyish abondend carnival style. I personally Like Rabbit in the Moons work----The first track on the FLOOOORIDA album has an awesome piano break in the middle of it...OBE has a good piano melody in it as well. The DOORS? I think that guy mostly played the organ---besides in Riders on the storm that I can remember.?---Im no expert though and I guess its the same thing. But ya I love the piano too

He's kind of hit and miss for me, but Ben Fold's has some pretty decent tracks. No name's come to mind, but I'm sure if you picked up an album you'd find something.

how does no one think of billy joel when asked for catchy piano songs?  he's the piano man for christs sake.

you all should be ashamed  .

but seriously, it doesn't get much catchier than pop music, and billy did some great songs.  elton john is decent too.  not that I listen to such things :smirk:.

Yeah he plays the organ and the electric piano. I really don't differentiate between keyboards. Harpsichord, vibraphone, grand piano. If you can play one of them you can play them all.

anything slower, sadder. I dont remember the name but it was a classical piano piece dont remember the name but it was something about a club.(zooted) Yea I like the sad sounding music like Finished Symphony. Thats violin but very moving, and like Jon Brions sadder pieces from eternal sunshine on the spotless mind.

Holy shit no one has mentioned Sir Elton John, or the Beatles "Hey Jude"!!! Whats wrong with you guys?

Check out the Eagles "Desperado" its sad.

If you like Jazz stuff on piano, and if your just looking for a song not a whole album or artist then you might download "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". That is such a good song.

As far as classical goes if you really like piano you should try to get ahold of a tape of a PBS specail i saw not too long ago. It was about a piano workshop(not where they make pianos, but a "retreat" for classical pianists.), and they had a concert at the end with like 12 pianos on stage at the same time playing "Ride of the Valkries" among others it was mind blowing. Crazy shit man.

Also right now there is a really good chinese Painist "taking the world by storm" you could say. He was on 60 min. about a month ago I guess. I cant remember his name tho.

Peace

The pianist is a fucking great movie no doubt, and it got to me too bro. Its funny how its the music that makes you want to cry, i mean if it had only been the actors with no soundtrack It would have done nothing, but that song, just stirrs the emotions. Peace
