What are you using for heat? Sounds like a heating pad....
If so, lower the heat or put a towel between your heating pad and terrium....

Lava rocks work , but perlite's sooooo much lighter..:D
And what white hairy thing are you talking about...ugh..lol

If hes at 90 I dont think he should have a heating pad at all (doesnt sound like hes using anything to heat it to me..?).

You can try ice packs or frozen bottles of water but short of just lowering the temp with A/C or adding ice..not much you can do.

Perlite may be lighter but also messier. For an airpump Id go with lavarocks for sure over perlite...no air pump..I'd go perlite.

White hairy things on the cake or on perlite near the cake? Yeah..probably mycelium if its white.

Way too many basic questions in one post, so someone is going to tell you to read up on the techniques and essays listed all over the shroomery libraries.

my suggestion for laying them flat is to simply lay a lot and set the cakes on top, assuming your tub is deep enough it will work fine. geolite is similar to perlite, with another name. 80 is oky for fruiting, although 76 is primary for pinning (approx)

Edit: I just deduced that he must be using some form of heating, if he werent he must be in summer, IE southern hemisphere, and nobody down there would think 80 degrees is a decent temperature for growth, they would call it 27 degrees!
