Professional Jiffy-Mix - Lime added casing material

Well I searched and searched and I tell you what. Not a damn person has much to say about the Professional Jiffy Mix. AFOAF picked some up for his garden in California and the package said;

"In Georgia & California, this mix contains 48% - 52% sphagnum peat moss, 48% - 52% horticulture vermiculite, and less than 1% lime as a PH adjuster"

Now, in searching posts for details on plain ole jiffy mix, it was determined to be about 6.2ph...that means that with the California and Georgia lime additions, things should be about 7pH...

shit it is some beautiful looking pre-made casing mix (judging by his pictures).

Look it up on the Jiffy website and they don't list that Cali/Georgia thing...

Anyhow, I was looking for opinions on cleaning this stuff. Pasteurize? PC? Boil? Simmer? Nuke?

they carry that at walmart for 3 bucks. use it right out of the bag,or if you want throw it in the microwave.

I plan on using the jiffymix for casing as well (I can't find plain verm or coco coir at any of the 20 stores I've searched locally). I also noticed the CA/GA note on the back of the bag. Watch your contents, I found other bags of jiffymix brand that contained perlite instead of verm. I'm just gonna nuke it in the m/w for 5 or 10 minutes to sterilize. I'm also gonna verify the pH with a cheap meter and probably add some crushed oyster shell as extra long-term buffer to keep the Ph up. good luck...
