How quickly can I get from inoculation to fruiting?
    #3700866 - 01/30/05 03:43 AM (12 years, 27 days ago)

In the PF Tek, on the "Birthday Cake" page, it says:
"All in all, the process takes from 4 - 6 weeks from spore inoculation to fruiting."

But it also says "1. Spore inoculation to spore germination - within a week, at 70 degrees Fahrenheit."

But if I store it at about 85 degrees F (which is supposed to be about ideal, right?), can I speed that up?

What are your experiences in terms of how long it takes to get from inoculation to fruiting?

Thanks!

If I keep the jars at 85 degrees and don't fuck anything up, how long is the longest it will take?

Thanks

If you wait two months and its 85 degrees then you fucked something up.

If you keep it at 85 and dont fuck anything up...2-3 weeks from inoculation to fruiting. Notice that says a week at 70 degrees from inoculation to GERMINATION. Germination is the first sign of growth. From that point it will often take 1-2 weeks to fully colonize and be ready to fruit..then another 3-7 days before mushrooms start popping up and then another 4-7 days before the first harvest is ready to be harvested. If you do everything right you can have mushrooms in a month from inoculation. Its quite probable you will slightly fuck up your cakes the first time or few you do them..though you may not. They can take up to 2 months even if you think you did everything right and keep them at 85 though if you packed in the substrate to much or threw off the water content at one stage or another.

That was a bit of a jumbled ramble but theres some ideas of timeframes in there..hopefully that helped you.... now  :rasta:
