when my friend did that tek he had set up at awning over the cakes....or applyed vaseline on the bottom of the lid(to discourage drips on cakes)...and he sprayed 2-3 times dayly with a spay bottle to the desired humidity.................

You do have a lid on it right? And you are sure that the hygrometer isnt screwed up. Mine is, it is stuck at 85%. It will not go higher or lower.

i had the lid on it but the lid wouldnt stay close all the way leaving a gap on the edges so i took it off and put a few layers of tin foil to make it air tight(sp i think) and i just went and tested the hygrometert by running hot water in the shower and it went up, but couldnt get it past 60. i have a few cakes in there right now and im kindof worried about them =(

It's the hygrometer. Trust me, your humidity is fine. Perlite is almost foolproof.

Like puscle said, it?s your hygrometer.
To calibrate it, wrap it into a moist towel and leave it for 1 hour. then take it out and set it to 98%.
Or simply remember what it shows, this is then app. 98% .

came to same conclusion, my hydro meter is crap, paid about $15 for it :(
condensation streams down the sides, cakes going all fluffy no pinning. Humidity 70.
Leaving lid with a gap for next few days to see if this intiates pinning.

I think im having the same problem. Is it possible that my humidity is over 100% when I dont have ANY perlite in the rubbermaid container? How thick of a layer do you guys usually lay down?
