too much heat is bad for drying.. i heard somewhere that anything over 100. F. will start to harm the alkaloids...so i think if you kept it under 100 you should probably be ok

Oxidation is the number 1 cause of degredation of alkaloids. And as anyone that has taken 6th grade science knows, heat speeds up oxidation. The higher the heat the more oxidation that takes place and the more degradation that takes place. Temps under 100F are best to keep potency, with temps much lower recomended by me. People who have significantly high yields care little about losses in potency, as long as they aren't major. Because the number of mushrooms out weighs the potency. If you have a small amount of mushrooms, say 3oz fresh, then your temps need to be as low as possible to give you a good trip. But on the other hand if you have several pounds of fresh mushrooms, its not going to matter much if you lose some potency because you have several pounds of mushrooms.

Who wants half assed mushrooms when you can have super shrooms? Fan dry them for 24hours and then stick them into a dessicant chamber. Dessicant can be found at your local hardware store under product names such as "Damp Rid" and "Damp-be-Gone". After use dessicant can simple be heated in the oven, restored, and used again and again and again...
