Fox News (no printed source - saw on the TV news): almost half of Iraqis polled aren't sure who or what they are voting for.

I'm voting for the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq.

In a democracy, the vote of the terminally ignorant counts as much as that of the exquisitely informed. In the U.S., democracy has given us four more years of GWB... maybe the Iraqis see this and figure, "Why bother?"

Sure their former Dick-tator was a self-involved egomaniac who thrusted his own renegade style of "democracy" on his country, but it's not like the whole Peoples of Iraq were intensively appealing to the world for a drastic change in their entire political atmosphere. 40% seems a low-ball number.

Oregon, if Iraq was being ruled by a dictator how would you even know if the people of Iraq wanted help or not? If they protested publicly or requested help from an outside government they would be tortured to death for sure. And what style of "democracy" are you suggesting Saddam Hussein practiced? The kind were nobody can vote, laws are created arbitrarily by a dictator and you can be killed or imprisoned without a reason? Doesn't sound ANYTHING like democracy to me.

He declared himself "President", and a "democracy" has presidents where I come from. Divided sky-"renegade style" like the previous post stated. It doesn't sound like democracy to me either.

personally i think a discussion about a brodcast from fox news is rather pointless. that aside polls are all bullshit mainly due to teh fact of: a) very small % of people are actual asked b) there may or may not be bias in who is asked c) there may or may not be lies coming from teh polled due to who is doing the polling d) its fox.
that be my veiw on the matter...

yeah dude it was a democracy under saddam, just with him as the only candidate. Similar somewhat to our Australian and your American democracy in that no matter who you vote for you get the same bullshit.
