HELP HELP
    #369466 - 08/09/01 08:48 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

please help me.... i have been waiting over a week for pins.
Temp is 80 degress F, humidity is high enough to create droplets on top of plexiglass lid. Nothing happening. Is temp too high? If so how can i control it, i have no AC in the house.
I have weather seal along the top edge, and plexiglass was bending so i removed it, leftseal, and replaced normal ice chest lid.

what can i do to induce these pins? I noticed some green on the bottom of one cake, and i removed it, would it take over? I need to pin these things before the mold takes over and ruins my entire project.

please help.

thanks

Pinning is induced by several variables. Cooler tempatures, increased air exchange, and lighting. Make sure your fanning several times a day and giving them a few hours of light a day. You may try to lower the temp in your terrarium for half a day or so as well.

I am in the humid lowcountry and even WITH AC its hard to get my casings under 80 degrees . . .what I am doing (someone more experienced please correct me if I am screwing up) is putting one of those plastic freezer things you put in coolers in the terrarium, rotating them 1-2x per day as needed to keep the temp around 75.
This is my first batch, so we'll see how it goes. I am already impatient for pins after 1 day.

You could try cold shocking by putting them in the fridge overnight.

Aside from that, make sure they are getting lots of fresh air.

if you rig up an air pump that cools it significantly.

Ted: "Hey kids, who does your mom look like in the morning?"
Kids... in unison: "James Brown!"

grnsmoke:
man I dunno if this is feasible.. but it sounds like you're living in a warm place..
if it is humid enough... ie. not a fucking desert...
stick the container outside, in permanent shade.. [ let the ambient light pin 'em.. that is how they do it in the wild ].. and maybe lift the lid a lil' bit to increase air exchange + make sure the sides are opaque so the light won't cause pins to grow where you don't want .

it is cleaner outside than inside... so don't worry about contams.
