MEA Questions

2 part question -

1) I will be preparing some dishes of agar and I was wondering how long they could keep for. I want to prepare them tomorow but I won't spore streak them until 2 weeks later. Will the agar go bad by that time?

2) After my dishes are colonized with mycelium, how could I preserve them? Could I toss them in the refrigerator? If so, how long would they keep in there for?

Go to wal-mart or a hardware store and pick up a 3m brand of electrical tape It is the best brand by far and tape them shut and store them cool and dark. I have done it many times and they will keep a good month or better.

Wrap them in many plastic bags and put them in the fridge make sure they do not freeze though.
I have some strains that are about a year old or so and they are fine I just transfered one recently.

Another question ... I just got my flasks and now will be the time to cook up my agar. I know I am supposed to put 500ml of hot water and mix in my MEA. Then I will put cotton over the opening and cover it with foil. Question is how long do I pressure cook it for and what PSI do I set it at?

it?s better to put water in a pot, bring it to boil, set aside and stir in the agar slowly, or you will get clumps. Also Malt extract dissolves without clumps better in col than in hot water.

PC at 15 PSI for 20 minutes.
