I was just wonderin if anyone had tried this stuff. I read at a site for spores that its suppost to be great to mix in your jars and it col real fast. So if anyone has tried it please let me know. My plan is to mix bird seed, Rye berries ,and Quinoa in the jars then spawn to worm poo cow poo and straw. Its an idea lol ill let everyone know if it works. I just want to know if anyone has done it already so if it dont work i dont waste my time.

I am currently colonising PF cakes with Quinoa flour subbed for BRF.  Not quite as advanced as your technique , but IMO the other flours I have used are being colonized just as quickly as with the quinoa.  Perhaps, though, it would make optimum colonization conditons with your tek.

It's not a waste of time to experiment unless you're just growing them quick large yields for selling.

I did a pint jar with quinoa. It is hard to get the humidity right without the jar turning to oat meal. I mixed vermiculite with quinoa about 50% to give it some structure, used PF jar tech for lack of any information, and inoc it with amazon. The result was mushrooms that felt roughly 50% stronger than normal. The cake depleated very quickly, so make a large batch. I think it was worth the time, but Ill try again to verify.

Ok if you have used the quinoa b4 than maybe you can tell me if this is normal. When i cooked them they all look like they sprouted lol did they do that when u tried?

Ya cook it and a bunch of "pig tails" appear from the hard coating over the seed. That is, if you use the seed version. This is normal. It makes a good hot cereal in the morning. It is a sacred grain to the incas. The seed has a hard coat that must be ground off before it is consumable which is why it is not more popular. They leave a little on and that is what you see as sprouts.

Quinoa is used because it is supposed to contain tryptophan which is a constituant of the entheogenics in mushrooms therefore the theory is that it may produce mushrooms that have a potential to be more potent which is really just speculation. The colonizing theory may have sprung from this but I haven't heard that till now. Quinoa = squat.

I was after the potency angle, but without a lot of equipment, it is hard to get reliable experiment results. I did get some mushrooms that had about twice the reaction I expected for their size, but who knows, it is really hard to tell.

So do you think that the birdseed, rye, and quinoa mix will help with potency?

well, increased potency or not, quinoa is one of the most nutritious grains you can get, so that has to mean something. it's also a lot more expensive than rye or wbs. Even though I usually have pounds of the stuff sitting around I still haven't tried growing on it yet. It's worth more to me as actual food.

I think it's a waste of quinoa if you're just making spawn out of it. It probably makes a better substrate. It gets mushy though, so it has to be mixed with something or you'll just end up with a solid brick of quinoa that won't colonize. 60% rye to 40% quinoa is probably good. Also, I would highly recommend checking the ph of the mix before you go and PC it. Quinoa has a coating of saponin which is slightly caustic.

It's a work in progress. Actually, I have yet to even sterilize the substrate.
