2nd Flush Probs

Ok, my first ever batch of cakes went fine, but then when I tried to flush them again(I cleaned off abhorts, and dunked), they responded to the dunk, got some fuzz and some pins, but nothing ever matured. Just these scraggly skinny half brown pins :(. Now I have completed the first flush with a new set of cakes, and the 2nd flush(or lack of) looks like a repeat from the first time. What am I doing wrong? I am using a rubbermaid, with perlite and a plexi glass lid. The pins never have that healthy look that invitro primordia do, they have dark heads, even when it appears they are still growing. Also, they have alot of white on the caps and grow horribly skinny. Any ideas?

you mean mycelium growing on the caps? If so, your humidity is too high. After your first flush, pick the cakes, and if needed, dunk them. Then, put them back in the terrarium but keep an eye on how much humidity there is in there. Sounds like your humidity is too high. Also, are they getting enuf light?

Sometimes cakes dry out easily; try giving them a double ended casing--a little layer of moist vermiculite on the top and place a bottom layer on whatever you have your cake resting on. Then put the cake on it and you should get a good second flush.
