Mandatory Reading of the RULES/NEWBIE FORUM
    #3688669 - 01/27/05 03:39 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Is there a way to make reading the rules mandatory? Specifically in the "Mushroom Hunting" forum. Every-other post in the hunting forum is in dis-accordance with the rules, most common is a "newbie" incorrectly asking for an identification without following the rules of asking for an id. This blatant disregard for the rules is getting old. The moderators/admin do a good job enforcing the rules, but there has to be a better way.
If there was a "NEWBIE forum" it would quite possibly correct the situation. Obviously many newbies do not read the F.A.Q. or the rules. There has to be a way to "kill two birds with one stone" here.
Thanks,
Oregon

I, for one, am against the idea of a n00b forum. Having immediate access to all the forums is a good thing, and could possibly save lives, if the reason for coming is help with identification.
Plus, having access to all the forums makes it alot easier to get involved with and meet the community.

Every n00b is already bombarded with rules and such with their first 10? posts (i think) so it's already getting out there.

Just politely point them to the rules, ask questions designed to draw out the information you need to help them, and welcome them to the site.
Much friendlier this way.

I agree. There are already things in place to deter those kinds of posts, but the stupid kid who doesn't read the rules is the same stupid kid who is likely to poison himself. There may be some way to tweak the present system to make it more effective, but I think a n00b forum is a bad idea.

Fair enough. How about an Identification Forum? Possibly a sub-forum within the Hunting forum? This would help newbies and veterans alike, and would clear up the Hunting forum a bit.
thanks again,
Oregon

I think we have something like this already.. New users are forced to view a rule page for their first however many posts. I cant remember if this is forum wide though.

I'm still getting that Rules Page popping up before I post about 35% of the time.
