hi. I was wondering which BRANDS of vermiculite and perlite you all use? I'm so new at this, that I'm not sure if brands make much of a difference, but thought it might be illuminating to find out what everyone else is using. I, personally am using Shultz brand for both. thx.

My local hardware store here in NYC carries Shultz brand of both verm and perl.

By the time I actually FOUND verm for sale around here, I didn't care what brand it was... Afterall, they only had one brand, but I forget what kind it was. Anyways, it doesn't really matter what brand (like the poster above me said).

I use Ace Hardware brand and Hoffman's from True Value Hardware. Both work fine and Hoffman's comes in a 10 quart bag instead of the normal 8. I used Purssel's Sta-Green Profesional Grade in the past with terrible results...most likely due to the wood chips and peat that was scattered through it for some reason.

I buy whatever is the cheapest at the time. Brand doesn't make a noticeable difference, but coarsness does. If you are using the PF verm seal a finer grade verm is better, and for cakes it doesnt make a difference, really.
