white fuzz
    #368754 - 08/08/01 12:55 PM (23 years, 5 months ago)

I was growing Hippie invitro tek style, but I pulled them out the jars and put them into a terrarium - only one had pinning, everything else turned white and then stopped. Now in the terrarium only the one cake has actual mushrooms on it. The other 4 cakes, and now the good cake, are being covered in a white, gooey fuzz. Sorta like cotton candy. This is also covering the actual mushrooms that are growing and I noticed that some of it was on the lid of the terrarium now. Is this normal or am I contaminated?

In all my calculated humility,

Kanuuker

Your problem is that the humidity is too high. The white fuzzy mycelium is growing over your pins, because it's too humid. Are you fanning the terrarium 3-5 times a day? If not, do so.
What are you using to keep the terrarium humid? Whatever it is, use less of it. You want the humidity level to be in the 80-90% range. And no, this isn't contamination, it's just "humidation".

Also, what did you mean when you said: "everything else turned white and then stopped". Weren't the cakes white to begin with? Anways, lower your humidity.
