Is christianity the only religion that actively tries to convert random people/everyone? I am so fucking sick of people relentlessly screaming about christ's love. Why can't they keep their own fucking religion to themselves? How can anyone who is not an idiot, nor a fucking sheep base and proclaim their whole lives on a god they can't prove exists. Am I the only one who finds it ironic that christians associate themselves with "sheep" and Jesus the "shepherd"?

Why are cults so terrible; ones which say things along the lines of "This world is nothing compared to the life you will be given after you die"? I'm hearing the same message from mainstream religions...

Shit, at least the "cults" really believe it and off themselves. If you believed you were going somewhere infinitely better than this place when you die why the fuck would you stay here? selfishselflessbullshit... please, i don't want to hear about how you or christ were so selfless and how you want to share his love.

It amazes me at how many people here (in a university town; i like to think its somewhat more educated here) can still, whole heartedly, proclaim their lives to a man who according to a book which has been translated who knows how many times, apparently "died for my sins". Thanks alot douchebag, I'd rather keep my sins, thank you.

At least some people today are merging away from fundamentalists who believe the bible with a literal interpretation.

There are still people who think the earth is 6000 years old and that god put dinosaur bones here to test our faith.

I understand how many people, probably even many of you believe in the "message" of christianity and of the bible. To love thy neighbor etc. Sure they are great ideals for a successfull community and provide a great foundation for morals. but morals are just a way to keep the survival rate high. in society the way we have it structured now, at least in america, I don't think we need religious doctrine to decide how we live our lives...

im going to go crawl in a corner and die

i agree with you for the most part..i'm glad you added that last paragraph. if it gives people something to live for and keep them happy, then yay. don't push it on me though..
you will get much more discussion on this if you post in spirituality & philosophy than here in the pub

you know normally I would have a lot to say about this. I was raised by and around christians.. it was forced on me. I was forced to be a christian as a young boy. Having a brain and critical thinking skills, I quickly observed the hypocritical nature of many christians, and discovered my own spirituality. Which of course the christians thought very badly of and criticized and questioned me for it. I would normally go on a really long rant about how I hate what christianity has become, but some christians are still good people.. but I don't feel like wasting the energy anymore. Suffice it to say that I agree with you for the most part, and I've just made it part of my philosophy to "live and let live".. so I don't have to twist my brain into pretzels trying to fathom how people can be the way they are sometimes. It's not about a religion it's about belief peddlers. You can believe whatever the fuck you want and that's great, tell me about your perception.. great... tell me how and what to think and believe.. you can go fuck yourself.

Just live your life and let them mindfuck themselves.. don't get drawn into the game.

Spending time criticizing a religion is a waste of time. You're not going to change anyone's minds, all you can do is: a) piss people off or b) preach to the choir.

Not that I don't understand where you're coming from.

It gets really hard when you see these idiots screaming on the drag between classes about how everyone is a sinner and we are all going to burn in eternal hellfire. God, I hate the bible belt.

When I was being brought up as a kid my parents and grandparents attempted to raise me as a Christian.
It didn't work. Even as a kid, my bullshit detector was finely tuned  .
They eventually gave up.

Yeah.. that's the extreme version to which I was referring.. that's one of the aspects that bothers me the most. You have two options:

1. Ignore them

2. Get in their face and question them. See what kind of pretzels you can work them into trying to answer your questions. It's fun sometimes. Fight ignorance!

Yeah I was forced to go to church for years. Of course I fought it all the way.. eventually they gave up too. And you know forcing a religion on someone makes them just hate it. Nowadays my family asks me what my beliefs are and I say something along the lines of buddhism meets paganism and they just look at me in disbelief like I am the spawn of satan. whatever.

I wonder if most True Christians? have actually read the bible. Genesis is a riot. Apparently a large boat less than 200 yards long housed two of every single species of animal we know of today (of course assuming evolution is a load of shit). genesis also says how the same god who loves everyone so much and wants to invite everyone to heaven to worship him for eternity regreted ever creating man; thus the forthcoming slaughter.

i believe i am going somewhere great when i die. the mind is eternal! loving life is all we can do! i read the bible from front to back 2 times. once in english and once in spanish. great stories and life lessons! no one has to conform to something they arent, just love what you are and love others for who they can become!

i really beg to differ. happiness is probably found in different places for different people. Ignorance/blindness is not my path...

im not trying to attack anyone, rather, I would be REALLY happy for you and everyone else if they would just not force their beliefs on me!

After I did acid for the first time i wanted to tell everyone about how amazing it is and how "happy" it can make you, ya know? Eventually I realized that alot of people don't want to try acid because of some principles they have... i respect that, i mean i dont have to agree with you, and i sure as hell won't try to force anything on you that you don't want, but please, do the same for me.

you can always fight for the cotrary of that which you want to fight against! everything has its opposite energy, just make the one energy stronger and some day that negative thing you want to fight against will dissipate because its opposite is so dominating!
