paper towel VS perlite

Not to get any flame secions going, but I find that paper towel in the bottom of a sterlite type of growing container far better than perlite for a few reasons. first is the maintainance. its just easier to deal with. second is the price. a roll of any paper towel is better than the price of perlite(not to mention the fact you have to go back periodically making you seem suspiciouse) contamnability-its been more bleached than my wifes hair! I never find any contamn starting from the paper towel-after a couple of months its the cake that usually gets funky first. If you have not tried this then you have NO BASIS FOR COMPAROISON!! I dont promote this for any newbies I dont suggest that anyone change their processes. I just state that its worked for me for many months better than perlite. If you want to try something cheaper than perlite and a lot less messy then I only point this out as an option. anyone that disagrees does not need to try it. I only make these disclaimers due to the fact that last time I mentioned it I was called everything BUT a white man. narrow minds run rampant here but I give only what I've fopund and fact as I know it. if you want a new type of experiment then try a double layer of paper towel saturated with a very mild bleach-h2o solution(I propose the usual 1:200 bleach to water ratio) only ever to share an idea! g'night!

hmm so you just bring the paper towel to field capacity (haha get it wet) and then let them chill in the bottom of your terrarium for humidity?

And how would that bring up humidity? Paper towels don't force out water like perlite, they just stay saturated....It'd work but your terrium would have to be rather warm for that to work, about 80F or so, and 74F works best....Not being a dick, just stating some obvious to hopefully get proved wrong so that I can go buy some paper towels Till then, perlite works
Plus that kind of sounds like using cardboard, and that's used as a sub. Sounds like contam city, even if you're using bleach, which harms the myc. btw.

Papertowels will harbor contams. Dont do this if you value your grow. Thats all I'll say.

how the hell does buying perlite look suspicious? unless you tell the clerk "I'm buying this for cultivation of illegal drugs"
come on now, it is good to be a little paranoid but if you think that buying perlite is a bait out, then what the hell are you doing poisting your operations on a public website

No one bashed...everyone just pointed out the flaws in his argument. What do you want people who dont agree to not respond so every newbie who stumbles onto this stupid idea of trading in your perlite for paper towels does it? No one bashed him though...

paper towel has worked better than perlite for me. it may not for you. Ive had less contamn issues and the temps are in the low 70's. I thank you all for your comments. nuff said,I'm out.

They do dry out in time, so they don't just stay saturated. And if one would put a large amount of it, crumbled or something, on the bottom, it sounds like adequate for casings to me.
Vermiculite also works, by the way. The walls on my box are sweating like crazy with verm on bottom, why would it not be enough?

as it has been said so many times before, condensation is a sign of temp fluxuations not high humidity ( look it up I don't have time to explain)

I've considered using paper towel... My FC is going to be larger than my small tubs anyways, so I figure I'll use all I can.
