Sterilizing with a Pressure Cooker
    #368670 - 08/08/01 09:32 AM (23 years, 10 months ago)

I have read so many different teks and they all have differenct procedures as to how to use a pressure cooker to sterilize the substrate in jars. Can someone please just give me simple instructions on how to sterilize my substrate (brf) with a pressure cooker? (how much water, how long to cook, etc.) Should the jar lids be shut completely tight, or left on loose?

Another question: Is ground brown rice usually mixed with something else, or does it work fine just by itself as a substrate?

use any of them. Heat kills bacteria. simple as that. use enough water, so it won't all steam away, but not too much that it gets in the jars. jar lids loose, but so they stay on.
