Someone in an earlier thread that you can use this shit (heh), but there was mention that if you lived in a norther US state that there is some kind of added chemical to it which makes it unusable. Anybody know where this magic line is to not have this chemical or the name of whatever it may be on the bag??

Check the bag ingredients, see if there are any fungicides.

I know about the fungicides, but is there any paticular brand worth getting or one that isn't?

Damn Home Depot. No Scotts 3n1 or composted manure without fertilizers. No mentions of fungicides that I could see thru the layer of snow though. Guess Lowes is in order tommorrow.

i got some store bought poo from lowes and it didn't really do anything. the mycelieum was really weak and it took forever to get anywhere. it ended up contaming in the end with a straw mix. i still have another like 2 sqare foot growing area of it and it gives like a couple mushrooms. there's a thread that mentions cows being feed food with fungicides in it, so i'm guessin thats the answer.

From what I understand, most of the composted stuff at HD/Lowes really only has about 10% manure in it and the rest is other stuff you don't need. I've seen enough threads with successful grows from 3n1 to take a chance on it not working.

I would really suggest products from http://www.dirtworks.net/ they have worm casings and manure, and both will work.

PURE BLACK (WORM) CASTINGS?
If you are interested in reducing your dependence on chemicals, lowering your cost of production and increasing yields, then you need to use this stuff
1. Suppress fungal diseases (phythium, fusarium, dollar spot, etc)
2. Reduce algae in greenhouse and ponds, lagoons ? no nitrogen run-off
That doesn't sound like something my mushies wanna live off of :X
