I can't really be bothered to fan properly, so I just open and close the lid of the rubbermaid really quickly a few times, will that do?

For real. Stick some bubble curtains to the bottom of that bitch, and run air hoses to a fish tank pump outside the container. It's cheap, and you never have to fan.

When you open it, fan with the lid of the rubbermaid for like 10 seconds about 3 times a day. I figure if your opening and closing it anyway this will be fine.

"I can't really be bothered to fan properly" How many times do u open and close it , all u have to do is wave it a few times then close it , its about the same thing.

Yeah buy an airpump, set it up like in PmP and then put that muhfukka on a timed extension cord. (Most likely found at pet shops in reptile section)

That or make a grow chamber a 10X10 room Talk about overkill... LOL... Scrape them of the walls , I like that pre chewed mushies ! I wonder if after 10 or so gens if they become wind resistant , just imagine mushies that could stand up to gail force winds , the stems would be like tree trunks

IMHO opening and closing the lid a few times will be good enough. Over christmas I left a casing in a terrarium for about 12 days, no fanning, no heating temps were between 57 and 68, natural light, and when i came back there were mushrooms everywhere. Moral of the story, leave em alone and they'll do better.
Also, when you fan you're replacing warm air with colder room temperature air. That sudden cold shock can't be good for the mushrooms.

Fruiting temp sould be about 75F... so the difference in air temperature should make any difference... now the transpiration that occurs from fanning without spraying... that can cause some massive abhorts.. Spend $20 and make a pmp and forget worrying about it...

I'm lazy too but that is just silly. It only takes 20 seconds extra to fan when you take the lid off.

Fanning duration only needs to be 10-20sec. Really!

oh and for the record I'm a little surprised by the amount of negative responses here. It's not that it would take me an extra 20 seconds, it would take me several minutes of moving furniture around for me to get into a position where i could completely take the lid off, find a way to hold it up with something, and then somehow fan it with a magical 3rd arm, while i crouch down with my arms twisted behind my back. And then several minutes to move it all back, not to mention the marks it leaves on the floor revealing the secret place. It already takes me long enough to reach my arm in there and wave the lid about.

You only need to fan with the lid. Fully exchange the air in there. What sort of responses do you expect when you say "I cant be bothered to fan". Thats a lazy attitude for this hobby. Sounds it anyways.
With an airstone though you dont need to fan at all...thats the point.
