That sounds like it should work fine as long as your casing is good and ster. the only prob i see is the top casing bein so thin u wont have alot of moist. for the flushes

The bottom part of the casing is controversial, some like some don't, some say its a waste of casing material if done right. IMO, anything that can hold more moisture is going the extend the life of your casing, but everyone has a different opinion on this. As to the top layer, its supposed to be thin, but you want to hold off on adding it until after you incubate it for a couple days.

Not really....you can't add the top casing layer AFTER you incubate the casing for a few days..well I mean you could but whats the point of that? I could see maybe a day to recover but even that I think is silly. The casing has to go into the incubation for a few days AFTER you case it...can't go in before and then expect to case it and fruit it and get it to properly colonize the casing layer...

Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..

Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber

Also when using straight verm, you want a THIN layer. There will be plenty of moisture holding ability in there...you probably have like 2-3 times the amount of verm as most people on top...say for instance I use 30% verm in my casing mix (like I do) and add a 3/4 inch casing layer..thats less then 1/4 inch of verm..which is basically all the water holding ability. Verm however will make it more difficult to grow (straight verm) so you want a little thinner of a casing layer. It will also completly cover the surface easier (blocking the substrate layer from contams) then a verm/coir or ver/peat mix since theres less ariness to it so again you can use less..

will any probs. result from using a 3/4" casing layer of straight moist verm compared to 1/4" or 1/2"? i just made my first casing 4 days ago (still in incubation) using 5 brf/verm cakes and a quart of rye berries to fill in the gaps (i simply cut the cakes in half). on the second day (with prob. slightly less than a 1/2" of verm casing) i already could see mycel. poking through the vallies around the edges, so i covered w/ about another 1/4" - just makin sure i didn't screw anything up or need to scrape some off and induce pinning

What exactly do you refer to with the term 'grinch'?

Grinch probably means green.

Dont scrape any off but you didnt covver the whole thing with a layer did you? Read up on patching more..you only patch the areas that are comming through in order to give the rest of the casing a chance to catch up..and thats way to thick to patch with..you only JUST cover the mycelium. What you did will just cause the mycelium to come up the same as it did before..not any more even..

To thick of straight verm layer will cause slower colonization of the casing layer and it will make it difficult to get water down to the bottom part of the verm layer if you let it dry out to much and verm is hard to tell when its dry or wet (compared to coir) so you may come across with problems. Whats done is done now though and you should be ok in the end...trying to scrape and shit like that just does more harm then good. Usually its best to not try and undo things you did or put bandaids on situations..usually its best to just let the mushrooms go and do as they please and learn from your mistakes and dont make them again next time to begin with.

Good luck!
