Beginner question...
    #3681005 - 01/26/05 01:40 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hey, I've been reading up non-stop and a few days ago (last Thursday) I inoculated my first jars ever using a custom technique described by someone I bought materials from.

I'm using two jars, and one of them showed healthy mycelium growth all around the edge of the jar after 2 days. The other, however, has still not shown any mycelium growth, almost a week later. It seems perfectly healthy in terms of contamination... I see absolutely nothing but substrate. I prepared each jar exactly the same way. Should I be worried? Or should I just be patient? Is it common for jars that are exactly the same to behave so differently? Thanks ahead of time, and I apologize for the "n00bism" of my question.

i do not have much experience either, but what i would say is wait another until saturday and if nothing is growing then you probably have a problem.

It can take up to 2 weeks to see the first signs of growth. Dont panic just yet.

Alright, now the second jar's mycelium is "knotting" in areas at the top of the jar, which I've heard is a good sign... and the first jar is still completely mycelium-growth free. Again, no sign of contam or ANYTHING inside the jar aside from the substrate.

We're probably going to be putting the contents of the healthy jar in the fruiting chamber in a few days. Should we just forget it and dump the second jar if there's nothing by then?

Thanks ahead of time.
