am I looking in the right area?
    #3679128 - 01/25/05 08:03 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Hi,
my budy and I have been hunting in the most northern part of cali (shasta county). We have been looking in broad leaf areas and found only one good shroom called "Hygrscybe". My question is at this time of the year is this the best spot to be looking? Are cow pastures a better bet?If U could get back to me I would greatly appretiate it.

Well we didn't eat it but were tempted. Not good? are there any better areas I should be looking in other than heavy foiled broad leaf areas? Is thant even the right area to begin with?

well what is it that you're looking for? hygrocybes arent active.

I'm not sure how the temps have been down there this winter, but if they havent dropped below freezing you might have a chance at scoring some ps. cyanescans.

Otherwise, I'm not familiar with any other actives personally. Try browsing through the Mushroom Hunting FAQ to find out what mushrooms grow in your area, and do research on those species.

edit: heres the link for the FAQ

so you know; all the mushrooms you listed in the above thread are active, taht's why they are listed. the most likely of those mushrooms for you to find in the fall is P. cyanescens, though you will want to go to the coast [like humboldt county] to find them. you may also find P. cyanofibrilosa in the bush lupines near the beaches.

Hygrocybe is a genus containing some toxic and non-toxic species, none of with are worth eating. many of them are common to find and are beautiful to see [vibrantly colored].

--------------------

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
