Stop Loss question
    #3678777 - 01/25/05 06:44 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Okay, a friend of mine is dating someone whom is out of the country for the navy right now, has been on active duty for four years, and was "stop lossed" (I'm skeptical of this) for one year more, which then turned into two years, and he's not even going to be stationed in Iraq. What is the likelyhood he is telling the truth? I'm confused about the situation.

This article says:
The current STOP LOSS program only affects members of the active duty Army, the Army Reserves, and the Army National Guard, and only affects individuals who are either deployed or have been officially notified that they are scheduled for deployment. Such members are prevented from separating or retiring from the point of deployment notification, to (up to) 90 days following return from deployment.

He's probably telling the truth. If the Navy says they need him and his skills they can more or less hold him indefinetly. It also depends on where his ship is, he might not necesarrily be in Iraq, but rather the Iraqi Theater of Operation (ITO).

He's not even being stop lossed to the middle east, plus from what I can tell, all stop loss was stopped for the navy in 2002, and I even found several articles decrying the fact that 301 people from the navy were stop lossed in 2003, yet that was rescinded one month later, so I'm thinking that this guy is lying, since he told his gf he would be home this year, but I think he volunteered for an extra two years, and is taking advantage of her naivity.
