Azurescens and Ps. Cyanescens outdoor average yields?
    #3667225 - 01/23/05 10:07 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

I'm curious to know the average yield that you folks have had for Azures and for Ps. Cyans grown outdoors. I understand that it depends on the conditions and how well the grower prepares the patch.

The reason I ask is that I have read contradicting things from various sources. I had heard that Azures grow in abundant cespitose groups, and Stamets said that in his book. He even said that nice patches can be created with ease. But when I looked at the Sporeworks page showing various outdoor grows, the images were pretty disappointing. So for those who have grown Azures or Ps. Cyans outdoors I'd like to hear what your yields were really like. Who's full of crap? :-)

Thanks.

LOL! Thanks Anno, those pics were awesome. But this is an Anno grow, and Anno grows are always a lot more spectacular than the average grower's. The pictures of the grows I saw on the Sporeworks page didn't look at all like yours LOL! It's like Tiger Woods demonstrating the average player's swing...

Thanks for the pics, though, they are gorgeous! You have a very nice camera.

I'd say that under good conditions you can average about 1 wet pound per square foot over the entire season. Azures are larger and tend to yield a bit higher. Since they are about 90% water you would need about 10 square feet of productive bed to produce a dry pound in a season.

Thanks Workman!  Short and clear answer, I like that.  Heheh then again, Workman grows are pretty darn good compared to the average grower's kinda like Anno's.  Heheh the two Gods of cultivation are the only ones who gave me a concrete answer, gotta love it

Question though: do you think that the yield would be bigger in total if someone were to create a large 10 square foot patch, or several smaller patches totalling 10 square feet?  It could be that a larger patch would be more established/tenacious/prosperous, or it could be that the odds of higher yields would be better if several different locations with different conditions are used, say with 2 square feet each.  Any opinions?

It is better to make several smaller patches, for many reasons(security, climate...)

3 square feet, 5 inches deep is a good size for a small patch.

Tabernac! That's quite the haul. This picture is going in my mycoporn directory for sure hehe. You said it's not your pic, but do you happen to know if these were cultivated or naturally occuring, and if it was a whole season's haul? Since they appear to be drying on newspaper, I'm assuming that this is either from a huge patch or from several patches, all from one hunting session rather than over an entire season. But at the same time it seems unlikely that anyone would find so damn many in one hunt!
