Mycobags?????
    #3677574 - 01/25/05 02:03 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I ordered 4 Mycobags that come with a pre-sterilized mixture of grain substrate material. Im going to inject these bags with B+ cubensis spores and golden teacher spores. It says they will colonize and fruit all in the same bag. Has anyone used these grow bags for any type of cubensis mushrooms?? Thank you in advance for you info

Lots and lots of folks use them for cubies , but most will agree(99.9% of us) is best to fruit in a proper chamber , mushies like the space of a chamber

Are we talking full blown grown to adult fruits or incubation of  material in bags ?

I lay my money on best to fruit in a tray in a chamber over fruiting in the bag, acting as a chamber . I mean I know it works and all , but what is best , and what do mushies prefer ?
Just to help educate the student

I did some oysters in one of those bags and it "kinda" worked , dumped the log into my grow chamber and it went to freaking town !

So the bags will produce some mushrooms just not as many as a chamber?

i have fruited in and out of the bags, YOU WILL have much better yields fruiting out of the bag, however if your not that worried about big yields (doing it just for fun) then fruiting in the bag is great as well, iv gotten some 7-8 inchers out of bags before

BINGO ! It will do the trick .
But some down falls are ...
Harder to get nice caps for printing .
Mushies not always grow straight up , they sometimes twist and wrap around one another .
Enviro not as controled as in a chamber , i.e. humidity , temp , direction of light source etc ...

yes, I grew some cambos that spanned my keyboard, fruits were easily 80+ grams
my equadors were almost that size.

you can case or spawn the contents of a bag just as you could a jar, with bags, you can do it in the bag, it reduces contam problems fast and simple

I never had a problem with a bag unless I contaminated it

With them oysters I mentioned , they just kept aborting , and refused to do second flushes till I popped them into a chamber . :sun:
I am sorry if it sounded like I doubted you and this method , just wanted to be more informative for someone so new to the whole game

So you are also saying to cut open bag then case , and use like a tray ?
Or just open bag from top and case the sucker ?

I disagree, I've had some beautiful prints from bags, I have better odds at
getting a clean print because the bag is sealed until you open it to get that
first cap, terrariums OTOH are not.

same can happen in a terrarium, but since its a single mass instead of several cakes there is less worry during harvest of knocking over other cakes...

it's all controled, you make the temp and light decisions and until you open the bag I'll assure you that RH is in fruiting range

I have an oyster petri in my fridge thats trying to fruit, it's pushing mycelium under the tape around it

pasturize some poo, break up the substrate and flatten it out, make slit down
the length of the bag ending about an inch from the bottom and top, fill it with
poo, cover it with glad wrap and incubate it.

casing can be done the same way, or both could go through the top, you can as you know, also pop it in a terrarium

Thanx P1 , like I said no disrespect was meant by me "thinking" chamber growing is best method .
You are that percentage that likes the full blown bag it method

Shot full 10 cc's straight into a Mycobag (GT's). After a couple of weeks the grain was solid white. Pin began to form with no real change in conditions. Just put the bag in a kitchen cabinet and left it alone. Got about 15 shrooms. I made the mistake of opening the bag without having a high enough humidity level in the terrarium (styrofoam ice chest with square cut out of top and covered with sarahn wrap). Shrooms I got were AWESOME!!

AFOAF had success fruiting in the bag last December, strain used was Cambodian I think.
