"The Elegant Universe" has got me thinking...
    #3676967 - 01/25/05 11:22 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hi All,

I recently watched a BBC documentary called, "The Elegant Universe." (Not to mention I downloaded it from a fellow Shroomite in our Soulseek room!) The purpose is to discuss the viability of string theory, but in the process everything is stirred up; special/general relativity, quantum mechanics, etc.
I'm just generally better hoping to understand such things. I have a pretty good handle on special/general rel, and I'm really interested in quantum mechanics/computing. If anyone here could recommend any good books or links, it would be much appreciated.

Principles of Quantum Mechanics by R. Shankar
Modern Quantum Mechanics (2nd Edition) by J. J. Sakurai

I also recommend you read Classical Mechanics (3rd Edition) by Herbert Goldstein

Read the book "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene. It is of course what the Show was based on. It is pretty good. I know it sounds cheesy, but I am majoing in physics because of that book. It is what really got me interested in physics.

Oooooooh, that show was British.

I thought it was homosexual.

So easy to confuse the two.

Seriously though, that show is like a cross between Cosmos and gay tapdancing hour.
