50% Beer, 50% Apple Juice & what were once a few EQ spores fresh off the stir plate (stir bar in jar). Not exactly advanced. But, the spores sure like it.

It is more of a GOLD color. Just looks a little pink in pic, because of lighting.

Errrr....... dang, now ya got me thinking about cranberry juice & beer culture test............LOL

Another angle & differing light - after it settled down.

Here is another shot of LC jars, just before being knocked up. Looks GOLD colored to me

I was fantasizing the use of guava nectar just the other day , how odd . And I was thinkg that the small amonts of solids in it could be benefical . I would imagine it would have to be diluted with some water , but juice is juice is it not ?
Do you think that it may be a little to acidic ? Apple juice normally has quite a bit of citric\ascorbic acids added to help preserve it .
HMMMMMM , interesting concept and idea agar , as always

That's 27 g per serving, right? So the whole bottle would have like 200g.

Label doesnt say, per serving. Only per serving thing I see is Calories 120 & fat calories 0.

Ingedients: Filtered water (only sufficant to reconstutute apple juice concentrate) apple juuce concentrate, calcium glucomate, calcium lactate, absorbic acid (vitamin C).

But, just went & looked at label on a can of concentrate. It does say, "sugars" 26 grams per serving. Serving size 8 fluid ounces.

Hmmmmmm.

At same time, beer cannot have that much sugar & that would dilute it 50%.

Still, lots of sugar.

Okay, somethings haywire.

I must have added some water & don't remember. Here is why. I made 7 quarts of this brew (that I do know). 1/2 gallon beer & 1/2 gallon apple juice adds up to 4 quarts & you cannot get 7 quarts out of 4.

I guess thats what happens @ 3 am in the morning after a few drinks.

SORRY........I did not mean to missinform anyone.

Agar shakes head & feels STUPID......now.

ANNO..... you are sharp cookie, to spot the screw up & question it.

Thought I was the first to think of apple juice until I found this thread! (and a few others).
If you are using proper apple juice it has a usual concentrate of 10-12% sugars (not dilutable apple juice but pressed or made from just concentrate). Fermented beer has very little sugar in it, pilsners have only trace amounts.
The beauty of apple juice is that it can be measured easily without the need for a scale, pour in on shot of juice and 2 of water to get an approximate 4% solution.

One thing I do know about is distilling booze, and a simple boiling of beer will leave alcohol in it, maybe this is beneficial against contams. Alcohol does not simply boil off "first" leaving water behind. It would be best to boil it down to 1/2 its original volume and water it back, there will be very little alcohol left in it at this stage. I think malt extract would be better though as it is basically beer which hasnt already been "eaten" by yeast.

Grape juice may also work and is usually 14-17% sugar. But I think everybody will be able to get hold of apple juice.

wouldn't the alchol boil off first because it has the lowest boiling point of anything in the juice.

No it doesnt work like that. If you boil a 5% solution the vapor coming off is 35%, not 100% (or 95% which is the actual limit), so it gradually gets weaker.
If it is 5% of 1 litre beer and boiled down to 800ml it is still about 1.3%

i'm currently doing an experiment using water leftover from steaming my dinner (shiitake, broccoli, potatoes). soo far it seems promising.

Damn I forgot my coffee. I am going to try fruiting on a LC. I have boiled honey water with some verm. About 1/2jar LC on top of 1/4 jar of LC. After the mycelium grows a nice amount I will try and syringe out some clear liquid leaving a bit of verm exposed to air. I can always boil some coffe and inject it later.
