Wild bird seed visitor (pic)

I didn't notice this until almost a week after PC'ing and recent inoculation.  Pretty disgusting, this gives me the shivers.  Can anyone I.D. this bug?  Is it a basic maggot?

Be sure to inspect your WBS before loading it into jars so you don't end up with this

No choice now but to keep going with this certain jar, although organic material of a dead insect can't be good down the road.

Looks like the basic maggot to me. Never ever saw that one before.

eeeww...so it was in there before pc'ing....little fella held up well, huh?

its certainly some sort of insect larvae, maggot of some sort, i understand they come in many variations...

if that bastard is thoroughly cooked he shouldn't cause major problems in the jar, right? just cut him out when birthing, even if just for peace of mind...

i'd like to hear an old pro's opinion though!

leave him in there. He made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of your science project

Looks like a grub thing to me....i don't remeber the exact name but they have nasty looking white transpaernt(almost, kind of milky) bodies and red heads, and tiny little feet like a caterpiller...My dad uses them for fishing  but not for cakes

Shouldn't hurt unless it rots, then you may have a problem on your hands....Pray for rhizomorphic growth to help fight against it

Aye, it is weird indeed. Several of them showed up after a 12 hour pre-soak, but I thought they were all picked out prior to PC'ing. Apparently not. The soak hatched them, somehow. Just disgusting, I hate bugs.

ChrisHippyLoser, yeah he was definitely toasted at 15 P.S.I. for an hour so for now things are sterile, but it's the next week or two I worry about. Eventually it will start to rot but I hope the mycelium takes over before then.

Tequila shrooms, good idea!
