Man survives month lost in caves
January 23, 2005
ananova.com

A Frenchman survived being lost in a maze of caves for more than a month by living on clay and bark.

Jean-Luc Josuat-Verges, 38, was found after three teenagers spotted his jeep near the entrance, reports the Mirror.

They alerted police who organised a 20-strong rescue team to search the three miles of underground tunnels.

The father-of-two had been lost for 34 days in the caves, at Madiran, in the Pyrenees, and had lost 40lbs.

One policeman declared: "It was like seeing a mummy rising from the dead."

Jean-Luc said: "I scrabbled around on the ground and found rotting wood and clay to eat. I drank water from puddles and somehow managed to keep myself alive."

He left home on December 18 to explore the caves, an abandoned mushroom farm, but got hopelessly lost.

Living for more than a month in total darkness, the former mountaineer wrapped himself in plastic he found to stay warm.

Wife Ginou said: "He probably survived because he was a bit overweight and his extra fat kept him alive. When he gets better, there's plenty of DIY around the house for him to do."

Those kinds of farms grow edible mushrooms, to be sold in stores.

that is craaaazy...

Also- when I went caving, I found a mushroom 300 feet down.. spores travel in with the wind and settle into a perfect enviroment.. I would imagine if cubes or other dung loving mushrooms could grow on guano a cave would be a good spot for a grow
