About Air Filters

I bought a kind of expensive 3M Filtrete Ultra Micron Filter from Home Depot for 16.99. I have found that this filter does not fit my AC. I would think that the bigger the filter, the more it is going to cost. I have everything I need but the jars and the brf. I have not much money left. The closest Home Depot to where I live doesn't sell canning jars and I hate to bother people for rides. I am going tomorrow to downtown Miami to get the brf. I am thinking I have enough money. If I got a container that I could tightly fit the AC filter on top of, do you think it could prevent those nasties from getting inside my jars?? You wouldn't believe the bs that goes on in Miami. I go to Wal Mart and almost NO person who works there actually speaks English!!! Its all broken when they do! I don't get how an American is at a disadvantage when he knows only English and a Spanish person can have a job and know only Spanish WHEN HE/SHE is IN the USA. You would think speaking English would be a prerequisite for having a job... on top of that, it was in Doral, a sort of Ritzy neighborhood. Bastards.. had to call them five times because they were afraid of my calls and kept sending me in circles because no one knew English!!! That shouldn't be tolerated.

I live in Orlando and I was able to aquire canning jars at Albertsons and Windixie (~$8 doz). For BRF, I got that at a health food store called Chamberlins ($4 for 3lbs). And Walmart here is filled with crazy sober people with screaming kids all day, but if you go at like 1am, its less traumatic of an experiance. As for the ac filter, i think that might be over kill. All you really need is a vent hole a few inches in diameter.

I wanted the air filter because it gets mold spores, dust and all sorts of shit out of the air and I don't believe it to be overkill at all. The thing is that it doesn't fit my AC and I was wondering if it would do the same if I just found a container with the right dimensions and fit the filter to it.

The problem i see with the air filter is that it could possibly be a humidity problem. Chances are that the water will condence on the filter or it will just pass right through it. If you have a coolmist hooked up, it could work well.

what? the jars and the shrooms are separate unless YOU grow your shrooms out of your jars. I plan on growing them out of a terrarium of my choice. I don't want contams getting in the jars while the mycelium colonate the substrate. The filter doesn't fit my AC. (filter cleans the air out after some hours of the AC going) I was wondering if it would be okay and if it would function in the same way if I were to find a container and place the jars in IT so they can colonize in there and fit the filter on IT. this is confused talking?

theres no need for an air filter, just leave the jar lids on and stick them is a warm place. You don't really need to flush out the air in the jars.

if an air filter isn't necessary, then why do peoples' jars get contaminated? I am going to put them in a closet. The house I'm going to leave them in has dust in the air and what not. I can tell because when I went to put the filter in the AC, the whole damn little room had shit all over it!! smells like it everywhere in the house, too! what should i do!? not put a filter on? have my money and time and effort wasted? contaminated?? I don't think so! Would it function as a filter lid for a container that would hold the jars in it. yes or no- not what you think I need or don't need. would it work?

Peoples jars get contaminated because they screw up in the sterilization procedure or they get ansy and start taking the jar lids off. if you sterilize everything correctly and leave the lids on theres no reason for any contaminants to ever get in the jars. I just put my jars back in their box and stick them in a large rubbermaid container with a light used as a heat sourse.

hey, youre getting a little paraniod. i think the best placce to put youre jars is under a desk. just take out the bottom shelf of youre desk or dresser, and there should be a little space at the bottom. just stick the jars there put the shelf back on. this is where i put my stash, it works great. i usually just put my jars on a shelf in my closet though, but i used to stick them under my desk.
