Rattle Rattle... New to the Shroomery
    #3671804 - 01/24/05 12:23 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Hello All. This is my first post to the Shroomery community. exciting.

i suppose i will start out by giving a brief overview of some ideas:

I want more than anything to be left alone by forces i do not choose (or that are otherwise unavoidable, such as those forces of nature.) More specifically, I oppose being subject to a government, economy, wage-slave system, culture, tradition, social identity, or any other form of hierarchy or containment that interferes with the actualization of my goals.

this is my "privelege." not somehow inherent to existence, but rather meaning that there is no regulating conscious fabric or entity, that i can know about anyway, that keeps me from what i want to do with life. my life is mine. if we allow the afforementioned forces to contain us to any degree, then we are surrending. history jails us. we are accepting 'the way things are'. we are accepting defeat; we are allowing chains to shackle us to the allegorical cave. we are letting the environment just happen to us, like a feather being blown about in the wind, versus being the hawk soaring through it. the wind still blows the hawk around and causes it to struggle very much at times, but the hawk fights through the wind by it's will.

i am not advocating pure idealism; far from it. one must most likely, given the modern environment, work from within the current systems in order to break free from them. many of us want to bring some of these systems down, to fight them, to cry wildly in a rebellious surge of that free feeling, to demonstrate that we are alive to the world, and that we do not want to settle for any sort of tryanny or repression. but we must put that romantic drive in check. following ideals will make us dead. any amount of conviction to any ideal will not change how fast bullets travel or how hard those jail bars are.

maybe we should forget about these systems, this world, altogether. maybe people, or "society", is beyond saving. maybe the world is already over, to be poetic. maybe we should forget about this whole sinking wretch of shit and focus on saving ourselves. that seems to me to be the final front; most other battles are presently slanted against us- let's take what we can, get together, and get the fuck out of here. let us make a new world.

i say we work from this formula: every human is trying to maximize two things: pleasure, and the sustainability of that pleasure (which includes survival.) we want great moments, for instance, and we want them to keep happening. one should work to determine what these pleasure pursuits may be, and logically evaluate if the pros outweigh the cons on these pursuits. we then should choose how to accomplish them... then DO IT. WHY would we settle for ANYTHING less? any answer to that question i can think of results from either fear or laziness, two attributes which most would feel embarassed about having. what about you?

it's all about that choice- do we want it? do we want life? because it takes alot of work, alot of pain, alot of strife to get on and stay on that adventurous track towards self actualization and freedom. the pros sure outweigh the cons for doing so; this should be evident.

the human potential is there, it's whether or not we want it.

afraid? lazy? prove otherwise. why? if you really have that question, then forget it. you've just wasted a few minutes.
