Why no talk of cubes outdoors?!?!?!

This spring I plan on doing a patch of cubes outside in the midwest. Ill do some WBS spawn and spawn it to a patch of straw and poo. I plan on starting as soon as the snow melts. I dont like growing indoors because the penalties are stiff it doesnt seem worth the risk. Anyone done an outdoor cube patch?! I need advice!
Do cubes do as well outdoors as the woodloving mushrooms?
Would they start fruiting in the spring? I plan on checking mostly in the fall during days of ideal fruiting conditions.
In the fall when temps are ideal, do you recommend covering the patch with suran wrap to lock in humidity?
Im really set on doing this. Any comments at all are greatly appreciated.

Doubtful. I had an outdoor patch that I placed in a very bad spot under my deck. The run-off every time it rained dumped right onto my patch. It would wash the casing material away, and the colonized block would float to the surface in the pool of water. It would sit in water for the entire time it rained, and for a day or so after. The patch survived fine, and still produced miniscule mushrooms here and there, I really didn't do anything to it, just neglected it. If you have a similar problem, a rain shield would be in order. In my case it really didn't matter, I personally wanted to see if the patch would survive such abuse and I had other things to tend to. (I know, it is sad - But it had better neighbors where the moss and rye grass is on the right) You don't have to pasteurize the manure, I do unless composted. I do not like coprinus popping up in my patch (although it will still work, other mushrooms may grow). Water the patch when the casing layer is dry. The constuction of a raised bed is advised...

How often do you water if it doesnt rain? Is mycellium resiliant enough to go weeks without water?

I agree. I'm going to be doing a nice size out door grow. I'm getting like 6 quarts of poo ready and about 4 pints
I can't pasturize straw/pine needles because I have no way of measuring how hot the water is (170F) and nothing big enough to do a bunch of straw at once (pcin 4 times for an hour becomes quite a nusicance(sp?) ) But I'm getting spawn ready Anyways, i'm using compost (hopefully) in a smaller location. I'm looking to see which yields better and such. I've been told over and over that compost owns poo so that's where i'm heading, i just think that it'd be badass to use your wastes (not rectal types of waste ).
Well good luck

Exactly, and what kind of mushies do you think you'd yield from that?
