A cornucopia of festive bolts of cloth poured out of the bed of the truck. Then the realization struck that one would have to guide each cloth home, to it's respective owner. Now, these aren't your everyday pieces of cloth, these were special. Each with it's own personality and life objective. Some were colorful, some only with black and white. Some had extremely psychedelic swirls and shapes, others with simple outlines of well known people ranging from John Lennon to Ronald Reagan. Obviously, these two bolts of cloth stayed far from eachother, the former kept to himself and the other bolts like him while the latter insisted on talking to everyone and letting them know how it felt.
The Sorting Of The Bolts
Each bolt had to be seperated to ensure that mess made of overflowing cloth could be cleaned and taken to their owners easily. They were seperated into the following categories: Color (non-portrayal), Non-Color (non-portrayal), Color (portrayal), Non-Color (portrayal.)
After they were all sorted into groups the problem of finding their owners arose. Many of the clothes were being quite rude and talked amongst themselves. The Liza Minelli bolt kept gabbing and the Chris Rock bolt wouldn't shut up. There was also a small group of bolts smoking together, among whom were Bob Marley, John Lennon, Jerry Garcia and Trey Anastasio. They were keeping to themselves and weren't posing much of a problem. Now 20 out of 23 bolts had tags affixed that showed ownership, and these were quite easy to return to their respective owners. The remaining three had no identification affixed.
The Finding Of The Owners
The first bolt was quite easy, it was a portrayal of a naked boy lying with a naked man. We immediatly contacted Michael Jackson and he immediatly came and picked up the cloth.
The second proved slightly more difficult. It appeared to be older and wasn't in great shape, But what was obvious was the fantastic patterns that were woven in. Magnificent patterns of every color on the spectrum blessed this cloth in shapes of every possible pattern. No pattern was repeated and at the beginning in swirly letters was "Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out", we immediatly associated it to Dr. Timothy Leary. But Dr. Leary is obviously no longer with us, so we contaced the appropriate loved ones and this bolt was returned.
The third was the easiet and most emmotional to return. When unrolled, a mural of "The Beatles" was visible. Even more fantastic in color then Dr. Leary's, but with each Beatle woven in with great detail. We contacted Ringo Starr who in turn contacted Sir Paul McCartney. A meeting was arranged where the cloth would be returned. Instead of splitting the cloth in half or sharing time, the two remaining Beatles decided to adorn the entrance of Abbey Road Studios. A spledid festival was put together to celebrate, but that is a story for another time.
