I have also posted this on contamination and received no replies. anyway my situation is that my roommate and I are currently growing shrooms and we make tea out of spent cakes, but what about newly colonized cakes that had some yellow contam on them with a sour smell. Is it bacteria and is it dangerous? We are boiling the cakes right now, would boiling kill any bacteria left behind?? any answer appreciated

Boiling will kill bacteria but do nothing to their waste products, which are the real danger. Don't chance it.
