Question on Pasteurizing 50/50+ Casing

I'm planning on casing my 12 PF cakes today using the 50/50+ Tek here on the website (http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7977).
Since my neighbors are out of town and I can't borrow their PC, I plan on pasteurizing my casing mix. Now for the question;
To pasteurize the casing it says for the temperature to be at like 170?F for about an hour. Would having the water temperature higher at like boiling point (212?F) be more effective? Or is this too high to 'pasteurize'..?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

That would be overkill for a casing mixture, all you need to do is microwave it for 5 minutes. It's that easy!
Pasteurizing/sterilizing casing mixtures is one of the things I put the lowest emphasis on...so many casings I never bothered to do this with and they turned out great.
In other words, sterilizing your casing mixture isn't necessary. If you feel safer doing it, microwave will fill your needs.

I like coco coir and verm casing's better.
Have a microwave oven?
You should be able to nuke it in a microwave. 10 minutes. let it cool down. then another 10 minutes. let it cool down.
then case.

Did you read what he said?
He said : Since my neighbors are out of town and I can't borrow their PC
So that isn't an option...this time.

I've read that pasteurizing kills the "bad" stuff while preserving the "good" stuff. That's why people pasteurize instead of sterilize. One tek even suggests putting the mix outside for a while after sterilization so it collects some "good" stuff.
10 minutes in a microwave. Hmm. How much mix is in there, and what power is the microwave? Is it pasteurized then, or completely sterile? It's all so confusing.
Call me goofy, but I just use the standard .3% solution of peroxide to hydrate the mix. Give the mycelium an advantage and let it run. JMO

I pulled my sphagum peat moss and vermiculite right out of the bag. 100% success. I'm not saying that you should... Its up to you.

Um...You don't have to pasturize your casing mix...You only really need to pasturize poo and straw....then pc....Pasturizing is kind of like soaking, basically activating endospores so that they can be killed at levels around 15psi...
and as for letting your mix sit outside after you pasturize in the unsterile environment to let in the good stuff...yea..that can go somewhere, like in the crap forum...

Oh, and sry about that previous comment, didnt mean to sound like a dick, but thats about as redicilous as pcing your substrate and then throwing it in some green mold and then putting it back in your jar and saying that what you will make the myc. stronger as it fights off the mold....
