overlay... we got some...

heeey, i got some... but i dont know what to do about it....

basically i want to know what would be more feasable:

(1) scratch the surface.
(2) add more casing material on top.

well thats it...
for references, its puertorricans & mexicubs...
thx

peace & happiness

Deep scratch and resume misting. I mean right down to the substrate. You can make XXX patterns with a knife.

What do you mean by deep scratching? Taking a fork and scratching the ENTIRE layer of verm (or whatever) down to the mycelium? So the places where mycelium is popping up early, instead of putting a bit of verm. on top, I should scratch it?

"Taking a fork and scratching the ENTIRE layer of verm (or whatever) down to the mycelium?"

No no no :( This would completely seperate the mycelium in the casing from the substrate it's growing from. Not good. Even if your colony recovers from this it would be a major setback. You only wish to disturb enough surface area to invigorate and strenghten (and potentially increase the number of pins your colony produces). Try scratching 'rows' into the stroma/overlay (yes down to the substrate) but only to the point that about 1/2 of the total casing surface is disturbed. Uhmmm..., well think of 'plowing' a field and you'll get the idea :) BTW, scratching works well with Ps Cub., but other (more delicate) strains do not tolerate it at all. Sprinkling a little more casing (1/8" deep) over scratched areas is a good idea too.

I thought I had stroma/overlay on my casing but I just left it in there for a couple extra days. And today I counted at least ten pins forming. And the thing is my casing was totally covered with mycelium. All I can say is give it a couple more days just in case then if nothing appears ruff up the casing abd aply another layer. Hope that helps:)
