Does bohemica/azure mycelium blue
    #366677 - 08/04/01 11:53 AM (23 years, 1 month ago)

I noticed a few of my bohemica/azure cultures have a slight blue/green tint to them in a few spots, I rarely get a contaminated petri, and it doesn't look like mold. I started to throw them out, but then thought that maybe it's because they are extra potent and it wasn't mold.

Anno, or anyone else that keeps cultures of these species, do they sometimes blue in a few spots?

Absolutely :) The mycelium of ANY potent strain of Ps. (especially Azurescens) will have a blueing reaction with bruising. For example: A drop of condensation falls from the top of your petrie dish onto the culture below. I have seen this many times.

Ya know if you keep the dish upside down, it'll prevent condensation from falling into the dish. That's how we were told to grow bacterial cultures in a bio class. Maybe that's applicable here.

Shit... If anything is worth doing, it's worth doing right.
